Despite the food coma that comes later, I’m a big proponent of extra special birthday breakfasts to kick off the big day. I did some digging and found 15 awesome birthday breakfast ideas that everyone in your family will love, from the littlest to the biggest.
We typically lean toward pancakes in my house. They’re easy to whip up and customize, whether it’s chocolate chips or fruit mixed in or sprinkles and whipped cream on top. But after all this research I’m going to be mixing it up this year! I probably won’t even wait for the next family birthday, because just look at all those sprinkles!
Birthday Breakfast Ideas The Whole Family Will Love
Special occasion breakfasts don’t have to be loaded with sugar to make everyone smile. I’ve separated all of the suggestions below into sweet indulgences and healthy fun options so you can find what fits your family best. Enjoy!

8 Indulgent Birthday Breakfast Ideas
Sprinkles are a birthday staple and an easy way to add fun to any of your favorite recipes, from pancakes, to muffins, to sprinkling on top of oatmeal or yogurt. (If you don’t have a favorite yet, here’s my staple pancake recipe. It uses butter instead of oil and is amazing every time.)
This cake batter pancake recipe uses actual cake mix in addition to funfetti sprinkles inside!
Or add sprinkles to a muffin recipe for adorable birthday cake muffins. Despite looking like cupcakes, this recipe has much less sugar and makes a small batch of 8 – perfect for celebrating birthday morning without the temptation of leftovers for a week.
Mini pancakes plus fruit and nutella?! Genius and adorable. Get the recipe for these pancake kabobs here.
Oh man, a cinnamon roll cake? With sprinkles?! Plus, it uses pre-made cinnamon roll dough so it’s actually not that many steps.
Donuts are one of my weaknesses. I feel like a superhero when a whole week goes by and I haven’t eaten one. Birthday donuts are a really cute way to celebrate your family’s resident donut fanatic. You can find a local donut shop that makes alphabet donuts and spell out Happy Birthday, like these cute pastel ones from Vicky’s Donuts.
Or go the DIY route and make your own! Check out Salty Canary’s alphabet donuts or these baked funfetti donuts from If You Give a Blonde a Kitchen.
Love color? These rainbow birthday waffles with whipped cream are birthday perfection! The recipe calls for gold sprinkles on top for a Saint Patrick’s Day twist but I bet it would look even more awesome with colorful sprinkles.
If you’re making birthday breakfast for a choc-o-holic like me, these chocolate cake mix waffles look amazingly delicious (and super easy).
7 Healthy Birthday Breakfast Ideas
For the easiest breakfast twist, simply stick cupcake toppers or candles into your normal breakfast fare or add a handful of sprinkles where appropriate. Scrambled eggs with a “happy birthday” mini sign and a side of sprinkle-studded cinnamon toast sounds delicious to me!
These banana pancake stacks are so cute! Banana pancakes are a simple, healthy twist to regular pancakes, replacing the fat and sugar with fruit and oats. I’m loving the idea of making little pancakes and stacking them with whipped cream and fruit like tiny layer cakes.
This healthy take on funfetti comes in the form of filling oatmeal. I would never have thought to put sprinkles on my oatmeal but that may just happen this week… This oatmeal pictured above uses regular rolled oats.
Or try this overnight oats recipe (just mix and pop in the fridge!) which uses steel cut oats (my fave!).
This one is not exactly a full breakfast, but these frozen yogurt-covered berries would make a fun breakfast side or after school snack!
Got a big family or bringing a snack to preschool to celebrate your little? This fruit rainbow is lots of fun!
These banana peanut butter bites also fall into the snack or breakfast side category. You could even use frozen bananas for summer birthdays. Sprinkle them with chopped nuts, mini chocolate chips, or sprinkles!
Ready to get cooking?! I might have to do one of these for a regular Sunday now because I’ve got all the cravings now.
Let me know which ideas you’re planning to try or any new ones I missed in the comments!
