Need a cute birthday photoshoot idea for your birthday party invitations, photo book, or Facebook “OMG-how-is-my-baby-ONE?!” post? Got you covered. Below are nine birthday photo ideas that you can pull together with minimal effort. All you need is a cute kid, a cute birthday outfit, and a prop or two.
Getting a special birthday shirt and taking day of photos has long been a favorite of mine. When my son turned four we got a big #4 balloon, had donuts for breakfast, and gave him four just for the cute photo (three regular with a donut hole on top just in case he really did try to eat them all, haha). He was so excited and it made for an adorable photo. I guess actually the photo and the special birthday breakfast are my favorites. Well, okay everything birthday! But starting the day off right just sets the festive mood.
Birthday Photoshoot Ideas With Minimal Setup Needed
A staged pic is a fun way to create a fun-to-look-back-on milestone for your photo book, to share on social media, and to make the big day extra special for your little one. It can feel daunting when you think about a special photo as a big production, but they don’t have to be! Below are fun EASY ideas with hardly any setup or props necessary.
I’m loving these chalk art ideas! You can spend however long you want making your masterpiece while the birthday kiddo plays in the yard, then plop them down for a few photos. All you need is a driveway or sidewalk and some chalk. Go simple with just words/numbers or add pictures to match your party theme. Perfect for an invitation or a photo to frame at the party!
This photo idea is so simple but totally unique and fun! Just cut open a box, write and cut out a message, and have your kid hold it upside down on a sunny day.
A giant mylar balloon is a super-easy way to get a cute picture with minimal work and big impact. I bought this rainbow colored balloon on Amazon to match Aidan’s rainbow 5 Yippitee. You’ll need helium as well if you want it to float or inflate with your breath and tape it to the wall for them to stand near or under.
This photo idea is too adorable. What’s your little’s favorite toy – you know the one you have way too many of? If you’ve escaped the toy hoarding phase you can easily copy this idea with something else you have lots of like blocks, ball pit balls, or mini balloons (painters tape them to the floor so they don’t roll around on you!).
If you have Scrabble tiles, try this idea out! You could even have them spell our their name and their grade for back to school photos, among other things.
Sometimes all you need is a cute birthday outfit! I found these rainbow bright leg warmers when looking for rainbow-themed leggings to pair with my daughter’s Yippitee unicorn 1 shirt. I wasn’t loving any of the pants I found, then magically these popped up in my search and it was love.
How cute is this idea?! You’ll need a few extra props but how fun would their first birthday celebration be with a crib full of balloons! You just need to hang a banner and then get the big kid decked out in a special outfit for the occasion.
For this cute picture you just need to find a big number cutout at your local craft store, or make one with foam board. You could even let the birthday kiddo decorate it before or after photos for a fun party centerpiece.
This idea is perfection for a super hero birthday party with older kids who can be still for a couple minutes. Hilarious and so simple! Just need to pull out a step ladder to get a good angle for the shot. (Post-pandemic of course!)
