Obviously the monster theme is a big one over here. They’re so fun and easy to add your own spin to. There are endless monster cake, cookie, and snack ideas, as well as decorations anyone can make in their own style. Monster pom poms, garland, banners, confetti, you name it. I’ve collected some of my favorite monster birthday party ideas to help you plan your little monster’s next party.

Monster Birthday Party Decorations
I partnered up with the crazy talented Shanti and Heather with Party At Your Door (another local Austin shop) to create a special monster birthday party collection, inspired by my newly launched birthday shirts. They can do amazing things with paper and hot glue! And really these would be great for any monster party – whether it’s a birthday, baby shower, or Halloween bash.
A sample of some of the cute monster items from Party At Your Door
An awesome thing about Party at Your Door is that you can buy a full kit of all the party decor you’d need OR you can purchase items a la carte if you found other decorations you want to incorporate or are sorta crafty and plan to DIY some. It’s really hard for me to pick a favorite but I think their garland wins my top spot. It’s just so perfectly simple yet so funny with those big eyeballs. I’m definitely draping mine off the mantle for Halloween!
Party At Your Door garland, centerpiece monsters, and confetti surround our first birthday shirt.
Their custom confetti is pretty awesome too. They have tons of shapes and themes available and you can get personalized name and age confetti as well. Great for the cake table (and to save for a scrapbook if you are so inclined).
If you’re up for some DIY monster party decor, I’m loving these ideas:

This monster garland is uber cute and simple. From One Charming Party.

Monster Cupcake & Cookie Ideas
There are so many monster-themed sweets you could have at a party: cake, cookies, cupcakes, covered Oreos, marshmallows, cake balls, rice krispie treats, and on and on. I’m going to stick to cupcakes and cookies for this post but check out my Monster Party Sweets board if you want to see other delicious ideas.
Monster Sugar Cookie Inspiration
Mary from Magnolia Lee Baking & Sugar Art is another local Austinite and an awesome baker. I drool over her Instagram feed daily and can attest that her cakes and cookies taste as good as they look (she made my son’s second birthday treats).
Mary worked her sugar art magic on some chocolate cookies for my pretend monster birthday party, perfectly replicating some of the monsters from the Party At Your Door decor. (If you’re wary of sugar cookies because you’ve been burned by an overly sweet, no-flavor variety, give chocolate sugar cookies a try! They’re like compact brownies and I mean that in a really good way.)

Monster Cupcake Ideas
If you have cupcake toppers you should keep the frosting more basic (don’t really want to stab a monster on a stick into a monster face). The above cupcakes are also by Magnolia Lee Baking & Sugar Art. We kept them simple but monster-ish to complement the Party At Your Door paper toppers. Mary piped frosting to look like squiggly hair and added fun dots and edible glitter for extra pizzazz. You can recreate this look with the Wilton 233 grass piping tip.
If you have minimal skill with frosting, you could totally pull off some of these simple but cute monster-themed cupcake ideas:

That’s it! I hope these ideas help inspire your next monster party. Add a comment if you’ve found any other fun decor or sweets ideas I’m missing.
